The Identity of the Nephilim (Part 1)

Speaker: Jamie Hansen
Series: The Image & The Likeness
Date: Feb 28, 2017

A CRUCIAL NOTE BEFORE LISTENING TO THIS MESSAGE:

Within the Church at large there have been two differing positions on the identity of the Nephilim spoken of in Genesis 6. (Position 1) Many believe that the Nephilim were the offspring of heavenly beings (the Sons of God) mating with human females (the daughters of men). (Position 2) Others declare that the Nephilim are simply “mighty men of old, men of renown”, and that this passage in Genesis speaks of a godly group of men (the sons of God) intermarrying with ungodly women (daughters of men).

Pastor Hansen invites everyone listening to take the position as a jury in a court case. This week, part 1 presents a detailed argument only for the first position.  Next week, he will present arguments promoting the second position so do not make up your mind on just this week’s message. He desires to present detailed arguments on both sides in order that the congregation may have a more complete understanding of the issues, and how each side presents its arguments. As Jamie said, “This is an exercise in discerning between truth and merely apparent truth”. Pastor Hansen writes: “…our own personal reading of God’s word is crucial.  Not so much our I.Q. but our heart Q is of significant relevance in our growth and competence in this effort.” Please listen to both this and next week’s sermon before arriving at a verdict.

Pro 18:17 The first to plead his case seems right, Until another comes and examines him.

Pro 18:13 He who gives an answer before he hears, It is folly and shame to him.
